Easter Holidays 2012

The Easter holidays this year started out on a bit of a downer, Esther started feeling poorly and proceeded to have a temperature of around 39 C for a week, even medicine didn't bring it down too much. After 5 days we went to the doctors who prescribed an antibiotic for suspected chest infection. That night she got a rash and since we didn't know if it was an allergy to the antibiotic we had a trip to the out-of-hours doctor who couldn't confirm either way but didn't think she had a chest infection. So the next day, which happened to be Alice's birthday, it was back to our GP. He confirmed it was a viral rash and she had a virus not an infection and I should just keep her dosed up on calpol and nurofen. With Esther being ill and also pretty poor weather we hadn't gotten out much but since it was Alice's birthday we took a trip out to a local garden centre that along with plants has some fish, rabbits, hamsters, mice, chickens etc plus craft stuff, books, candles (the girls favourite section!) and toys. As we were looking at the books Alice climbed up the 2 tier trolley and fell head first from the top. Trip number 4 to the doctors in less than 30 hours!!! We were really getting our money's worth from the NHS and Alice gets the pleasure of waiting at the doctors twice on her birthday! What a treat!

We had planned a trip to my parents for the Easter weekend and decided to go ahead since Esther seemed to be on the mend. We took a few day trips out, the first to York and since it was miserable weather we went into the York Castle Museum which turned out to be pretty good. There were a lot of different displays leading you through history and things for the girls to do so they really enjoyed it. Here they are in the old police cell:

Esther and Alice in the space shuttle.
The next day we went to Beamish, an open air museum where everything is set in Victorian times. We went last year and Esther was freaked out by the Carousel and wouldn't go on, I don't blame her - the music is really loud once you get on. This year the girls all went on and enjoyed it!

By Easter Sunday Esther had started feeling unwell again. Too much, too soon I guess and so we went home the next day. We took it easy for the next few days and managed a play date near the end of the holidays. The holidays were a real washout and the kids watched The Incredibles more times than I care to add up but thankfully Esther was well enough for the start of school.
