To get or not to get...

I'm booked in to get my swine flu vaccination on Friday. My mum is really against me having it and I know quite a few people who tell me I shouldn't get it but I was going to get it anyway since the statistic says pregnant women are 10 times more likely to end up in Intensive Care if they get it. Anyone got an opinion either way?

Last month we had a nasty flu bug hit our house. Amazingly, I didn't get it...but just having to deal with it for 3 weeks converted me. (it might have been swine but we don't know--they've stopped testing for it)

If the vaccine was available I'd get it! (2 of my kids have it)

I definitely think this is a tough one. My pregnant sister, who works in the NHS has decided to get it, as long as she is definitely over 12 weeks pregnant, as this is when most of the development happens, from then it's just growing... I think if I was pregnant I would get it, some people just don't know when to stay home when they are ill.. especially, I think, from church.

I went in for my prego appointment Tuesday and the nurse strongly encouraged that I get it. She mentioned some of the same reason you did for why to get it. She also said that the vaccine is a dead virus so the only side effects you will most likely have is a slight fever, but it's not like they're giving you a mild case of the flu. I think I'm going to get it. I got the flu shot when I was pregnant with Emerson and didn't have any side effects. But then again you know us Americans we 'love' shots. :)
